We stayed in Room 54 which is on the second floor next to the "deck." We had a partial view of the ocean and we were near the breakfast room. This motel is a converted apartment building, so the layout is a bit "funky" (lots of stairs in unexpected places). The positives: This motel's location is fantastic. It is walking distance to the beach and downtown Carlsbad. It is a 10-minute walk to the train station. The free breakfast is delicious and greatly appreciated. You can eat inside the breakfast room or outside on the "deck" (ocean views in both locations ... see photo). The negatives: The tap water tastes disgusting. There is only ONE water-filling station on this property; it is inside the breakfast room which closes at 9:30 am daily. Small, bottled water is available in the lobby for $1.50 each. So, refill ALL your water bottles during breakfast if you don't want to run out! There is also a drinking fountain on the corner of State Street and Carlsbad Village Drive, about 0.50 mile away (near Blues & Shoes). The motel charges $23/night to park on the property. Parking fees are as annoying as "resort fees." Luckily, there is free parking on the street. If your room is near the second-floor "deck," be prepared for NOISE. A staff member FINALLY turned off the fire pit at 10:30 PM. I was afraid the large group of loud, cackling women were going to cackle all night long!

I’m wrapping up my stay at the Best Western Plus in Carlsbad, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Andrew was absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. The entire front desk staff was also incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was another highlight. It was delicious with plenty of options, and it was so nice not having to worry about one meal each day while on vacation. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying here again on future trips!

The location is perfect if you are looking for a slower beach town, with shopping. From the hotel you can easily walk down to the beach, to get dinner or enjoy a drink. The rooms are older, but well maintained. The toilet/shower are in a room and across is the sink area. The hotel has a lot of stairs, and I witnessed several older people trip and nearly fall, so watch your step! There is an elevator to each floor, but there are still steps youll need to take. The outdoor seating areas are lovely! Nice, comfortable furniture, a fire pit and a great view. Bring a little lap blanket so you can be cozy in the evenings. The breakfast is standard, but in a lovely room. The staff were very kind! There isnt a parking lot, but you park on the first level of the hotel, under the rooms. The parking it tight, but doable! Overall it was a nice stay, with a great location!!

X New post ••• This hotel boasts one of the finest customer service experiences I've ever encountered. From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere was truly exceptional. The two ladies at the front desk, along with their supervisor, were extremely courteous and accommodating. Despite our scheduled 3 pm check-in, we arrived at 10 am and were graciously offered a tour by the supervisor, who also upgraded my room to one with pool access and suites at no additional charge. Upon inquiry, I discovered that the hotel is family-owned, which resonated with me as I work for a family-owned store and appreciate their dynamic and energy. The happiness of the employees was palpable, from the front desk staff to room service and the breakfast hostess. It's evident that they are treated well, with some staff members having over 15 years of service, and speaking fondly of the hotel's owner as a kind family figure. The hotel's location is ideal, situated directly in front of the pedestrian lane that leads to the beach, next to an excellent seafood restaurant, Harbor Fish, where I highly recommend trying the fish tacos MUST TRY THEIR FISH TACOS! It's also 5 min walk from the little Mom and Pop stores and restaurants. I've included some photos of their breakfast buffet, which, while not as extensive as some larger hotels like Hilton, was more than satisfactory given the exceptional customer service. Breakfast with a beach view!? Yes please!

I understand this is a modest beachside property and that the location across from the beach in Carlsbad naturally comes with higher rates. I booked an “ocean view” room for over $400 expecting the view to justify the price, even if the hotel itself was more basic. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing in a few important ways. Upon check-in, I was informed that parking at the property was sold out and that I would need to find street parking. In such a congested beach area, this was extremely inconvenient and stressful, especially while dealing with an injured foot (walking boot) and carrying luggage. Street parking was very difficult to find, and I ended up having to walk quite a distance while also worrying about the safety of my rental car overnight. The biggest disappointment, however, was the “ocean view” room itself. The room had a window with shutters facing mostly palm trees, with virtually no visible view of the ocean or beach. I truly feel the room description was misleading and did not match what was advertised. The staff was polite, and I understand some things may be outside their control, but I do think the hotel should be more transparent about both parking limitations and what qualifies as an ocean view room. With clearer expectations, guests could make a more informed decision before booking.

Blown away by the customer service. Andrew the evening guy was so friendly and generous in so many ways. Very cool fire pit vibe and breakfast with an ocean view. We plan to be back again.

The property is a classic, retro-style hotel that has clearly undergone some recent remodeling. While the efforts to keep the space clean and well-maintained are evident, the "vintage" charm comes with several significant trade-offs regarding modern convenience and accessibility. ?The Room & Accessibility The interior is spotless, but the "retro" label is a double-edged sword. The most glaring issue is the lack of accessibility features; there are no grab bars or handles in the shower or bathroom, limited electric outlets, poor HVAC and ventilation, the bathroomwill be very wet. Furthermore, the building does not have an elevator. If you are assigned a room on an upper floor, be prepared to haul your luggage up the stairs yourself. ?Service & Amenities This is not a full-service establishment. There is no 24-hour front desk, they do not honor tax exempt gov reservations and they do not clean rooms at this hotel ?. We did not get to enjoy breakfast because it doesn't start until after 7, definitely not a place for a business traveler. ?Connectivity The Wi-Fi here is extremely slow and spotty. It struggled to handle basic browsing, let alone any professional tasks or streaming. ?Final Verdict If you strictly prioritize cleanliness and a nostalgic aesthetic over everything else, you might find this acceptable. However, for the modern traveler who expects basic accessibility, constant staff availability, and functional internet, this stay falls very short.

This hotel is in a perfect location! Right across from a beautiful beach. The suite was newly remodeled and the bed was so comfortable. They do offer things to be used at the beach in the front office. There is parking for a fee. One downside, the bathroom definitely needs an exhaust. I was getting ready after showering and the water that was on the ceiling was dripping on me. There is a window at the top of the shower but that should not be a reason to not have an exhaust. I couldnt even reach that window if I tried, it was way too high.

Beautiful hotel along the Carlsbad Beach. Breakfast is simple and tasty and the pools are great for families to enjoy. My day was a little complicated because the heater wasn’t working and it made for a cold night, but the hotel worked hard to make it right. Jay, the front office manager and Alyson, set me up in another room to spend an additional night and I’m so glad that they did. Things don’t always go perfectly, but a business, such as this, is then given the opportunity to make a customers experience exceptional, which they certainly did. I hope to return again soon. So very relaxing.

This is my favorite best western. The location is ideal as it is in Carlsbad village and is very walkable and no shortage of things to do and see. You walk out the door and cross the street for great beach access. The employees are great at what they do and the housekeeping staff is amazing
