I made a reservation 2 months prior to my trip and received a confirmation email from the area director of sales Elizabeth Murphy the week before my stay letting me know or my reservation remains confirmed but I would not receive my Marriott points since transition to a Marriott property had been delayed. I showed up to check in and was informed that my reservation had been canceled with no other explanation. I was not given any compassion or sympathy especially after telling the front desk staff I had just driven 7 hours and had my two small children with me. The only solution they gave me was to call Marriott. After contacting Marriott they did indeed confirm I had an active reservation, I contacted the hotel manager and staff via email and never received any follow up or apology. Very unprofessional and disappointing.

Horrible experience. We booked this hotel on our Bonvoy app two months ago. We showed up yesterday to major hotel renovations, which were extensive and a huge mess. No one told us that they are going through a renovation at any time. The hotel lobby is in a hotel room. We want to check in and see what condition our room was in and they didn’t have our reservation. We were told by an extremely rude reception woman that they were not part of Bonvoy. I said they were because I booked it on the Bonvoy app two months ago. She very rudely replied that they are not part of Bonvoy yet and that we had to take it up with them, which we are in the process of doing….another horror story getting them to honor their Titanium Member policies is ridiculous. This hotel looks like a motel 6 and I can’t imagine what renovations they could possibly do for Bonvoy to want it as part of their chain. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

The hotel was fine for what we needed it for. A bed to sleep on after Legoland. No frills. The hotel was fine, floors were dirty and needed to be mopped. There was a lot of construction. We stayed on the first floor and you could hear the people above stomping all hours of the day. The thermostat was broken so the room was never warmer than 66° and my kids constantly complained they were freezing. The interior gates were never locked so its not very safe. We paid through priceline and the hotel charged us on Saturday after we checked in and again today (Monday) after we checked out. I let the hotel know on Saturday we were charged by them after paying on Priceline, they said it was their mistake and reversed the charges. Then they charged us again today, I called 7 times and was hung up on the first 6 times, after I checked out and this time they said I was wrong and someone will need to research and call me back. If I'm correct that I paid through Priceline then they will reimburse me. So far they have $1,463.06 of my money pending on my account that I can't access, after I paid Priceline. 10 outta 10 dont recommend unless you want to pay 3 times for a meh room. ****edit to note Lisa at the front desk is the one saving grace about this place. I would give her 5 stars****

ve stayed at Carlsbad by the Sea multiple times over the years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. DONT BOOK HEERE READ FIRST. On my most recent stay, I was given a confirmed late checkout time of 1:00 PM. The main reason I requested this was to conduct important phone calls during the day. Despite this, starting around 10:00–10:30 AM, staff repeatedly knocked on my door asking if they could clean the room. This happened while I was on active business calls. A late checkout should mean privacy until the agreed time. On a previous stay, we encountered multiple roaches in our room. I took photos and reported it to management. The issue was not just the presence of roaches, but the lack of response. No discount, no compensation, no meaningful apology. We were simply moved to another room—where we then found more roaches. That shows a deeper cleanliness problem. We still decided to give this hotel another chance. Unfortunately, the final issue made this stay unacceptable. Around 12:00–12:30 PM—before my 1:00 PM checkout—two staff members were sent to my door and knocked extremely aggressively, like law enforcement. It was intimidating and inappropriate. I felt pressured to leave even though I was still within my approved checkout time. An employee named Diego appeared to be responsible for this situation. The handling of this was unprofessional and showed a lack of understanding of basic hospitality standards. This is advertised as a three-star hotel, but guests should not be made to feel like criminals for following the rules they were given. Carlsbad is a beautiful city, and this property does not represent it well. Between the cleanliness issues, poor communication, and disrespectful treatment, I can no longer recommend this hotel. Management needs serious improvement, or this place needs new leadership. I regret spending money here and will not be returning.

Pleasantly surprised. Wonderful location with delicious restaurants in walking distance. The windmill has many options as well as arcade games. Stellar value. Pool and jacuzzi. Clean facility with friendly staff. Accommodating hotel with complimentary late check out, water and coffee. Would absolutely come back!

Very clean and comfortable hotel. With my bag back it's hard to find a next that I can comfortably sleep in my the bed here was great for me and I was able to get up immediately and even walk without the typical pain I deal with. Close to a lot of local attractions. Beach. Lego Land. Etc. Very comfortable place at a very reasonable price, especially for the area I would have expected quite a bit more in price. Rooms, beds and bathroom were all very clean being in "one of those people" that take a good look before getting comfortable in a hotel.

Attended an event at the windmill next door and got a room so we didn’t have to drive home after the event. The hotel looked like a nice beach hotel. The room itself was laid out well for us and the accessible shower was great with ample grab bars. However, I had a bad feeling when we arrived to find the lobby closed and the front desk was crammed into a small hotel room. The staff was pleasant enough and checked us in quickly. The room itself had some problems. There was no soap at the bathroom sink so I’m guessing housekeeping failed to restock the room. The flooring in the room is hardwood floors which is okay, but it’s clear the floors are not properly cleaned regularly because after walking around the room for a few minutes white sock bottoms were brown with grime. Made us not want to walk in the room in bare feet. The firmness of a bed mattresses is difficult to please everyone. For what it’s worth I found the mattress too soft and had a little back soreness in the morning. Others may find it to their liking. I didn’t. My low review is really about the room cleanliness. If I ever need to stay a night in the area I will choose another hotel nearby.

Stayed two nights here and had a very pleasant experience. Room was extremely clean. Staff was beyond kind. The warm pool was AMAZING. So many shops near by and great food options. 10/10 recommend

Very friendly staff, Liisa was very friendly and thoughtful and gave a late check-out when our flights got delayed. Very spacious rooms. Easy location! Also across from Carlsbad Premium Outlets and connected by a parking lot to a great food hall called The Windmill.

The location is great—right across from the Carlsbad Premium Outlets, which makes shopping super convenient. The staff was friendly, and check-in was smooth. However, the hotel itself feels a bit dated, more like an old-style inn than a modern hotel. There were no complimentary slippers, and overall amenities were just okay. If you’re looking for convenience and proximity to shopping, it works, but don’t expect a luxury experience.
